Repairing vs. Replacing Your HVAC

An HVAC unit is not a cheap investment, but that’s just it, it’s an investment. Each HVAC unit can last you years with annual checkups and professional repairs when needed. But, when is it time to replace, rather than repair your HVAC? Most people would love to stick with the phrase “don’t fix something that’s not broken”, but that isn’t the case for your heating system.

The best way to find out if it’s time to replace your heating and cooling system is by having one of our specialists come and look at the inside and outside of your home and give you a proper consultation. If a unit isn’t performing to a homeowner’s expectations, replacing the HVAC may be the answer, but there might also be underlying complications that need to be addressed as well.

Often, if your unit is older than 7 years it’s time for a replacement. In the past 5 years HVAC units have been updated so that they’re more energy efficient, therefore it may be something worth considering if it saves you money down the road. This is something to consider even when your unit is working perfectly fine. Wear and tear is bound to happen, and 7 years worth is pushing it.

If you’re HVAC is fairly new the best way to determine whether you should repair or replace is looking at cost and what the damage is. If it’s only a little piece that needs replacing and it won’t cost you much to do so, it would make more sense to simply repair that piece. But if there is severe damage to your unit, replacing would make the most sense. having a specialist come and analyze your cooling and heating unit is the best way to determine what needs to be done, as they’ll know how difficult of a repair it’ll be and what you’re looking at cost wise.
