Common Duct Issues Pt. 2

Your Home’s Ducts Could be Costing You Money

Welcome to part two of our blog series on common duct issues and how to fix them. Here at North Central Florida Air Conditioning, Inc. we want all of our Gainesville area customers to be aware of the issues that can plague their home’s duct system. While air conditioners and furnaces receive a lot of care and attention, people often neglect the ductwork that delivers the heated or cooled air to the rooms in their home. Not only could this be costing you money, it could also be placing unneeded stress on your HVAC unit. In today’s post, we are going to go over a few more common issues that can crop up in your duct work and what you should do to fix them.

Don’t Let Your Duct’s Get the Best of You

While we are sure if your ducts could talk, they would say how much they want to effectively deliver air throughout your home, but they can’t. As a result, you have to pay attention to them without any sort of verbal cues to indicate that they may be experiencing an issue. It is up to you, the homeowner, to ensure that your ducts remain as healthy as possible. To help with this goal, look out for the following issues.

  • Twisted or Crushed Ducts: While this one may seem rather obvious, it is amazing how many people will just ignore the fact that their ducts have been twisted, crushed, or damaged in some way. While large, metal ducts can become damaged, this issue mostly plagues the soft, flexible ducts that are commonly found in attics and crawl spaces. If these types of ducts become damaged they can start to leak or restrict airflow. If these restrictions in airflow continue for too long further damage could be conveyed to your HVAC unit.
  • Faulty Installation: Unfortunately, not every duct issue can be easily fixed. One such issue, improperly designed or installed ducts, almost always requires a full redo of a home’s duct system. In a study conducted by the National Comfort Institute, it was found that the average US duct system is only 57 percent effective at delivering air to the rooms of a home. If your duct system is improperly designed, it cannot deliver or receive the required amount of air to serve your home. If you feel that your duct system is not performing as well as it could be, give us a call at North Central Florida Air Conditioning, Inc. We will come out to inspect your ductwork and determine if it was improperly installed.
  • Dirty Ducts: To ensure that your ducts are not delivering dirty air to the rooms of your home, we recommend that you have your ducts cleaned on a yearly basis. Built-up dirt and dust can not only negatively affect the quality of air within your home, it can also cause damage to your HVAC unit.

If you feel that your ductwork needs some love, don’t hesitate to call the experts at North Central Florida Air Conditioning, Inc. We have the knowledge, tools, and experience to make sure that your home’s ducts are as healthy as possible.
