In order to keep your air conditioner functioning properly and efficiently, it is important to keep up with the regular maintenance it needs. Regular maintenance can not only help prevent a costly air conditioning repair, but it can also extend the lifespan of the cooling system in your Gainesville home. One of the main maintenance tasks that should be done consistently is changing and cleaning the filter in your air conditioner. Not only does a clean filter do a lot to improve your indoor air quality, but it also does a lot to maintain the efficiency of your unit. We have a few tips for keeping your air conditioning filter clean and operating as it should.
What Kind of Filter Do You Have?
While many air conditioners have disposable filters, some air conditioning units also have reusable filters. If your system has a disposable filter, your filter should be changed out about once every three months. If you have a reusable filter, it should be cleaned about once a month to keep it from getting overly clogged with dirt and other debris. Reusable filters should also be changed regularly.
Cleaning Your Filter
As we mentioned before, your air conditioning filter should be cleaned about once every month to prevent build up. In order to clean your filter, simply remove it from the unit and rinse with lukewarm water. If you find that this does not remove all of the dirt, dust, and grime, try using a gentle cleansing soap, such as dish soap, to clean your filter. You can gently scrub the filter with a soft bristled brush or you can always try working it with your hands. Once your filter is clean, you will need to set it out to dry completely before putting it back in your AC unit.
