Does Having Your Air Ducts Cleaned Often Really Matter?

How often have you cough, sneezed or noticed dust on top of your shelves? Is it often? Do you own pets? If so, how many? Do you own cats or dogs? You may be wondering why we’re asking you all of these questions, but it’s just to help you understand the importance of having your air ducts cleaned and maintained with repair regularly, even more so if you’re the owner of pets.

ventHow Often Should You Clean Your Ducts?

According to the NADCA, homeowners should clean air ducts under the following circumstances:

  • Every three to five years.
  • When you move into a new home! When you move into a new home, you’ll be breathing in all of the former home owner’s dust particles, there’s nothing grosser than that. However, if the previous homeowner has told you they had the air ducts cleaned within three years, you’re good to  let the ducts sit for another year or two.
  • After you build a new home. If you’re having your home built from scratch, chances are there are tons of debris and scraps of particles within your air ducts. Breathing in these items are unhealthy and can cause respiratory issues you don’t want.
  • If you are a pet owner! Depending on the breed of dog or cat you own, you may want to consider having your ducts cleaned sooner than five years. We suggest three is a good amount of years to let pass before you give us a call; however, there is nothing wrong with scheduling a consultation with our duct repair crew to take a look.
