In one of our previous blogs, we discussed the importance of having your ducts cleaned regularly. Not only does a thorough duct cleaning help improve your indoor air quality, but it also helps prevent dust, pet dander, bacteria, as well as other allergens from circulating around your home and making you and your family feel sick. While it is always best to have your ducts cleaned by a professional, we understand that there are some folks out there who prefer the DIY method instead. So, we wanted to go over how to conduct a proper duct cleaning in your High Springs home.
Cover the Supply Register
Before you start cleaning your ducts, it is important to cover your supply registers. You are going to be loosening a bunch of dust and dirt from your ducts. Covering the registers will keep the dust and other allergens from circulating throughout your home when you are trying to clean.
One of the very first things you should do before you get started on cleaning your ducts is to check your furnace filter and ensure that it is operating as it should. You don’t want any of the dust and debris you knock loose to get pulled into the fan motor. If you need to replace the filter, go ahead and do that after you clean.
Turn on the Fan
Next you will want to turn on your system fan. This will keep the dust that you loosen up from resettling at the bottom of your ducts.
