In our last blog post we talked about how the change in temperatures is a crystal clear calling to turn on the AC units that have been hibernating. While using our air conditioning unit is just as easy as getting right back on a bike and riding, there are a few tips and tricks that we forget about. In an attempt to help you get back in the swing of things, our team of HVAC experts have created even more ways that you can help keep your home cool this summer, while keeping your air conditioning unit effective and efficient.
Shut Those Windows
We are often surprised by how often windows get left open while an AC unit is running. It may provide an extra kick of cool, but very rarely will this ever be an efficient use of your air conditioning unit. If you are going to keep your windows open, make sure that you are taking the time to turn off the thermostat, or set it to a time when you know the windows will be closed. That way you aren’t wasting any energy.
Switch The Direction Of Your Fans
The direction that your fan is moving will determine the direction that cool air is flowing. In plenty of blogs during the cooler seasons we suggested changing the direction of your fan so that warm air would be pushing down, helping you save money on your electricity at that point of the year. Now that temperatures are rising, it’s time to switch the direction of the fans so that warm air is blowing towards the ceiling while the cool air continues to push down into the room, keeping it comfortable.
Follow Standard Maintenance
Maintenance is a must. While it may not be something you can do on your own, it is something that will inevitably need to be done if you want your air conditioning unit to last as long as it’s selling value was. Having a professional come and check whether or not everything is working as it should, if there are leaks, any parts that need replacing, or the like, will keep you from having to dish money out for bigger repairs.
Now that you’ve got these tips you can enjoy the following months inside of your cool home, or at least have a cool home to come back to once your day in the sun is over. For any questions or to schedule an appointment for routine maintenance on your air conditioning unit, call our office today.
